Leaders from health care, aviation, retail and business services registered for two-day seminar featuring “Afterburner” military-style excellence training.

Oak Brook, IL, May 16, 2013 – A keynote by Afterburner will kick-off the ninth annual VMS Professionals Conference and peer networking event, scheduled for May 30-31 at McDonald’s Hamburger University in Oakbrook, Illinois. The event, which draws registrants from throughout the U.S., is held exclusively for corporate leaders responsible for workforce management of contingent employees. The program will also feature two additional sessions and a forum discussion focused on the theme “flawless execution and the pursuit of operational excellence.” Registration for the conference will be open until May 24, 2013.

In addition to learning strategies for improving alignment and managing change-based military training principles shared by “The Afterburners” team, registered participants will also hear a keynote by George Reardon, special counsel at Littler Mendelson, on the impact that The Affordable Care Act will have on contingent workers. Kyle Petersen, a labor attorney with Seyfarth Shaw will present the most up-to-date information on employment law concerns related to hiring contingent workers. The conference will also include a case study presentation, document reviews and a best practices forum led by Cynthia Moore, co-founder of VMS Professionals and Sr. Manager, Professional Services Management at Discover Financial Services.

“The contingent workforce in the U.S. continues to grow each year, and with that growth comes new challenges companies must address regarding their employees and contractors,” said Karen Wilson, co-founder of VMS Professionals and CEO of MAKE Corporation. “We create this forum each year specifically to bring corporate leaders together as peers to gain the knowledge they need on issues like the new healthcare legislation and share insights on how they manage their contingent workers.”

“As a first-year VMS Professionals Conference attendee, I learned a tremendous amount of valuable information from the speakers and fellow attendees,” said Kayla Thompson, People Coordinator for Southwest Airlines. “I was also blown away by the willingness of other VMS professionals to share knowledge and experiences with one another.”

The slate of registered participants for the 2013 conference represents a wide range of corporations including JC Penney and Kohl’s, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, Hillshire and McDonald’s, and CVS Caremark and BlueCross BlueShield. The event is sponsored by Bartech Group, Beeline, Fieldglass and MAKE Corporation.
