Every day, individuals overcome the sometimes staggering hurdles life presents. Their ability to do so is often driven by people around them who respond with strength, love and support.
It is these incredible demonstrations of courage in the face of adversity and generosity of spirit that feed our passion to get involved. When we reach out, we enrich our own lives in the process. Here are just two examples of the ways we try to make a difference in our communities.
National Ovarian Cancer Coalition raises awareness and promotes education to improve the survival rate and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer. MAKE got involved with the Coalition because one of our colleagues is fighting a battle with ovarian cancer. To help her and others in similar circumstances, a large group of MAKE employees and their families (and dog!) joined the 16th annual Run/Walk at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago to make a difference for the Coalition.
Ronald McDonald House Charities helps lessen the burden of a sick child by ensuring more than 4.5 million families a year have the stability and resources they need to keep their child healthy and happy. Several MAKE team members have had first-hand experience with the service and care provided by these houses to families facing the illness of a child. To help ease their burden, MAKE Corporation supports a number of Ronald McDonald House fundraising events, including:
- McDonald’s Corporate IT golf outing in support of Ronald McDonald House
- Opening of the newest Ronald McDonald House in Chicago
- Ronald McDonald Houses of Dallas and Fort Worth “Share the Love” fundraiser
- Ronald McDonald House Charities annual masquerade gala
We hope you are as encouraged to act as we are. We invite you to send along examples of people whose response to adversity reminds you of the goodness still present in our world. We may not always be able to control our circumstances, but we can always draw strength from each other when we respond by caring.
